Utica College is sprucing up the campus.

There are many improvements the college has been working on since the end of August. Facilities Management has put new benches and lights all over campus.

New benches and lights were installed because the old ones were bent and damaged. The new benches are black, most without backs. The new lights are also black, to match the benches.

"Each light cost about $2,000 and each bench was about $700," said Donald Harter, director of Facilities Management.

There are 13 new lights behind Strebel, and there will be a dozen new benches by the time they are done installing them.

Some students have taken notice of the improvements.

"The new lights match the benches," said Laura Bryan a junior psychology major. "It makes the campus look better."

Along with the new lights and benches, there is a new sidewalk behind Strebel. An outside contractor installed the lights and the sidewalk. The old sidewalk had cracks in the asphalt and wasn't wide enough. The new sidewalk is concrete and is wider, from Strebel to the Athletic Center.

"Our goal is to make the campus more consistent and uniform," Harter said.

The new lights and benches are already finished in the academic area. Now the residential areas need to be finished.

Other improvements are also in he works around campus. Currently, the parking area behind Bell Hall is being expanded.

O
ver Christmas break, there is a project planned for Strebel lounge. Facilities Management will put in a new ceiling and new lighting.

More improvements are in the works around campus, but have not yet been finalized.
